Inauguration 2009

An event this anticipated and this large calls for a large format 1474 megapixel photo
of the whole event.

From the yellow tape around the trees to the far right to the statue on the dome, the detail isn’t enough to read someone’s watch, but you can see the disapproving look on the 43rd president’s face.

David Bergman is responsible for this mega image and explains how he captured it:

I clamped a Gigapan Imager to the railing on the north media platform about six feet from my photo position. The Gigapan is a robotic camera mount that allows me to take multiple images and stitch them together, creating a massive image file.

My final photo is made up of 220 Canon G10 images and the file is 59,783 X 24,658 pixels or 1,474 megapixels. It took more than six and a half hours for the Gigapan software to put together all of the images on my Macbook Pro and the completed TIF file is almost 2 gigabytes.

David Bergman: All Access

Its still odd to turn on the radio and hear an articulate leader of the United States. If he does nothing else for this country he’ll hopefully make up for 8 years of bad grammar.

Boy you could spend hours on that photo. Its like a where’s Waldo. I hope someone dressed like Waldo.

  1. Supposedly, you can see Clarence Thomas asleep. I haven’t tried to look yet. 🙂
